Programme for Parents/Caregivers
an introduction which involves exploring the emotional state of the parent/caregiver;- an overview of the programme attended by the child witness;
- the benefits of court preparation;
- the disclosure process;
- the abused child;
- children’s fears of going to court;the court process;
- helping children prepare for court;a question session; and
- practical considerations.
On completion of the programme the parent/caregiver will:
- recognise his/her emotional state;
- understand the programme the child will be attending;
- recognise the importance of the child attending the programme;
- understand the disclosure process;
- understand the traumatic symptomologies the abused child may exhibit behaviourally;
- understand and know how to address the possible fears the child may have bout going to court;
- understand the court process;know how to help the child to prepare for court; and
- know what to do when the child goes to court.
